VEIL Latino Ministry

VEIL is a Congregation Under Development in partnership with the ELCA Churchwide Office and the Southern Ohio Synod.

The VEIL community is a diverse, bilingual, Christian Latino community, open to all people. Our mission is to be a witness of God’s unconditional love — striving to empower a worshiping environment, fostering love for our neighbor through teaching, caring relationships — welcoming the creativity of the Holy Spirit in conversation and action.

It is under the leadership of Deaconess Carmen Colón-Brown.

LORD OF LIFE has offered a “home” to Pastora Carmen Colón-Brown for this program and has pledged to offer her support in a variety of ways. Program support includes but is not limited to:

  • Moms program that supports pregnant women and moms with children.
  • Sunday tutoring program is a bridge program that allows students to continue reading and learning during the summer.
  • Interns from Miami University engage with students in the community.
  • Citizenship programs.
  • VEIL Ministry Needs

Our diaper drawer is completely full! Many thanks to those who have contributed to our Mothers’ Ministry program! There still exists a need for:

    — Baby Wipes (especially refills in soft plastic packages)

    — 100% Juice boxes

    — Tampons (plastic only)

    — Feminine pads (THIN Regular and THIN Overnight)

Please place your items in the VEIL Office.

A very easy way to help support VEIL: If you shop at Kroger, please sign up with their Community Rewards program & choose VEIL as the group you’d like to support. Our number is 29572. A percentage of all that you spend at Kroger is given to the mission church. Last quarter, VEIL received almost $100 from this program. Please consider signing up.

  • VEIL Summer Reading Program

     summer reading

    Wednesdays, 10 am - 2 pm
    Sundays, 2 pm - 4 pm
    beginning June 6th
    in the Fellowship Hall

The summer reading program provides an opportunity for students to keep their skills sharp over the summer as well as providing enrichment in a topic. Research established that, without enrichment, during the summer months, children lose 50% - 85% of what they learned the previous academic year. This summer’s theme is the Human Body! The lessons will be introduced on Wednesdays. Sundays will provide an enrichment lesson. Please consider volunteering during the summer. Are all welcome, including high school and college students. No Spanish required. Join us as you are able.

The program provides lunch on Wednesdays. We also need volunteers to host the Wednesday lunches. Please consider making a lunch for the children on Wednesdays. You can sign up online to provide lunch.
