Share the Light.

You’ve seen our plans for our next steps and might be wondering, “What’s up with the chapel?” You are not alone. There have been many questions about that space. “Why do we need a chapel?” “What would we do with a chapel?” “Chapel... Huh?”

Can we say that we mislabeled it in the initial information? We should have called it a multi-purpose community space from the beginning, because that’s how we will use it now and in the years ahead. Somewhere down the road, it will become a chapel space, but for the foreseeable future, we imagine it to be so much more.

Every day, our building is busy with ministry and community events. That’s a good problem to have, but we are desperate for meeting and fellowship space. Right now, everyone is very accommodating in the shuffle, but we spend so much time and energy setting up and tearing down, that could be better spent investing in people and ministry moments.

As we consider our next steps, imagine a vibrant, well-lit structure in a prime location on our campus – right out front on Tylersville Road – that would be a beacon of hope to all people that we are a place of Christian faith that is grounded in our community and welcoming to all. This mission hub would be multi-purpose community space, about three times the size of the Lord of Life library, that could be used for:

  • Sunday morning adult, children, and youth faith formation
  • Fellowship events
  • Confirmation class and gatherings
  • Senior High class and gatherings
  • Midweek Bible studies
  • Instrument and vocal recitals
  • Music rehearsals
  • Exhibitions and art gallery
  • Quiet place for prayer and reflection
  • Blue Christmas worship
  • Advent Adventure
  • Small weddings and funerals
  • Family Promise
  • VEIL Homework Fellowship
  • VEIL Citizenship classes
  • Valentine’s Dinner
  • Boy Scouts
  • Girl Scouts
  • Stephen Ministry
  • AA/Al-anon
  • West Chester Mom’s Club
  • Faith Alliance Clergy meetings
  • Family Promise Trainings
  • Meeting space for other ministries and groups

This expansion would provide an immediate release valve for our current scheduling limitations. It would be outfitted with a sound system and projection capabilities that would be available for immediate use, and when finished as a chapel space in the future.

As we live, share and celebrate God’s love freely with all people, the Light of Christ radiates through us and into our neighborhood and city. 1 John 4:19 reminds us, “We love because God first loved us.”

I’m excited to announce our upcoming capital campaign, Share The Light. There will be much more information on this exciting journey in the coming weeks, but if you have questions, please connect with me via e-mail or phone.

Thank you for shining!
