If you are a fan of Tex-Mex cooking, few things are as delicious as a plate of sizzling fajitas. En route, you can hear them pop and crack and then whap! – your senses are overwhelmed by the sight and smell of the blackened iron skillet set down before you.
Staring down at the stack of marinated meats, grilled onions and bell peppers, garnished with shredded lettuce, sour cream, guacamole, salsa, pico de gallo, cheese, and tomato, you quickly realize that fajitas are half nourishing meal and half construction project. So grab a tortilla in your hand, load it up with your own special creation, add a splash of the house hot sauce, and you’re ready!
I’m thinking about fajitas today, not because I’m hungry, but because this amazing entrée reminds me of the Church. Jesus didn’t ever compare the church to fajitas, but he did talk about the people of God being a delight to the senses (we are salt and light)! He spoke about blending all sorts and types of people together for an unimaginable result (we have a variety of gifts and are all important parts of the Body of Christ). And Jesus said that we should nourish and sustain one another (feed my lambs and reach out to those in need).
If you’ve had a chance to glance at our 2016 Ministry Review, you know that God is at work among us. Each day, the Spirit of God is preparing us, making us new creations, and sending us out. Thank you for allowing God to use you as part of this amazing dish called Lord of Life. As we share our hours, dollars, and abilities for what Jesus is up to through us, we become something bigger than ourselves.
Let’s nourish the world in the name of Jesus,
Pastor Lowell Michelson
